Recycling Is A Beautiful Thing
As one of the largest plastic film recyclers in the U.S., Trex recycling saves about 1 billion+ pounds of plastic film and reclaimed wood from landfills each year.
- Trex is one of the largest recyclers of polyethylene film bags, wraps and packaging in North America.
- Since our inception, we have diverted and recycled more than 5.5 billion pounds of polyethylene film.
- The entire high-performance Trex decking portfolio is manufactured using up to 95% recycled and reclaimed content.
Trex has hosted the NexTrex Recycling Challenge since 2006 with the objective of educating the public on the importance of plastic film recycling. Participants collect plastic film with the goal of recycling a minimum of 1,000 pounds of plastic in a 12-month period. If the goal is met the group is awarded a Trex bench. Over 3,300 community groups and schools have participated in the program. They help divert approximately 1.5 million pounds of plastic film away from landfills annually.
In addition to contributing to a healthier environment, our earth-friendly recycled decking also contributes to your LEED points—not to mention your good karma. Trex products contribute up to four LEED points in the Materials and Resources category to any structure. Learn about Trex and the LEED Green Building Rating System™.
Created in part by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED is a point-based system designed to honor building projects that incorporate efficient, cost-effective and safe eco-friendly products.
