Can I install my own deck lights?

Installing the lights might seem complex at first glance, but thanks to our plug-and-play system, it's manageable for DIY enthusiasts. Though the different parts and pieces may initially appear to require an electrician's expertise, this project is designed to be DIY-friendly. Can you put lights in composite decking?

Yes! Trex offers recessed lights that can be inserted into the decking for applications like creating a perimeter around the space and lighting a dock or pathway.

How do I light my deck at night?

There are a number of ways to light your deck at night. The first would be simply to plug your transformer into your outlet. If you’re looking for a more hands-free approach – use the photocell timer provided with your transformer. This photocell timer has multiple options including setting your lights to illuminate from dusk until dawn, or to be on for two, four, or up to 10 hours. Another way to light your deck at night would be to use our WiFi Controller. The new deck light WiFi Controller allows you to control from anywhere from your smart phone.

How high should deck lights be?

Deck light height will depend on which light you are installing and your height preference. We do not have set requirements for light placement.

How much does it cost to install deck lights?

The cost of adding Trex deck lights varies depending upon which lights are being installed or how many. Lights start around $57.99 each. Wiring, splitters, transformers and timers will add to the cost.

Is Trex deck lighting worth it?

Deck lighting is 100% worth it. You’re increasing your usable time on the deck by opening yourself up to outdoor living at night. In addition, our lights come with a seven-year warranty while the transformer/timer is warrantied for three years.
