There are few places in the United States as picturesque and historic than Santa Fe, New Mexico. The city’s distinctive architecture dates from its founding 13 years before the Mayflower Pilgrims established Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts. Pueblo Indian villages with their characteristic adobe structures continue to influence architecture and life in our nation’s oldest state capital city.

This year’s HGTV® Smart Home pays tribute to that rich heritage, bridging the past with modern living to create perhaps the most unique home in the program’s history. Sustainable, innovative, and clever, this stunner features seven Trex® outdoor living products which adorn four separate outdoor spaces.

Tiki Torch Sets Stage for Beauty

Rooftop and ground-level decks are all crafted from Trex Transcend® Tropicals composite decking in Tiki Torch, a beautiful mix of nutmeg and ginger. Tiki is the perfect backdrop to this landscape of woodlands and mountain forest (no, it’s technically not a desert) and vibrant skies that cry out for star gazing. The ground-level deck surrounds a spa pool while the rooftop space provides miles and miles of sightlines to the sky and mountains beyond.

Transcend decking revolutionized the composite decking category when it was first introduced to the market in 2010, offering unprecedented aesthetics and performance, and has remained the industry’s leading composite decking product for more than a decade. With its capped shell, Trex decking requires no sanding or staining, and won’t rot, warp or splinter. Sustainably made in the U.S., Trex decking is made from 95% recycled film and reclaimed sawdust, and cleans up easily with just soap and water. Its durability and beauty make it an HGTV® Smart Home 2023 no-brainer.

Two additional Trex products were used to create a seamless finish to the deck space. Tiki Torch fascia boards added to the sides of the deck structure, made from the same durable material as its decking counterpart, give it a pleasing finishing touch. Trex Hidden Fasteners used between the grooved deck boards, eliminate unsightly screw holes.

Railing and Spiral Stairs Pair Up Perfectly

The rich, earthy brown of Tiki Torch finds its perfect complement in Signature aluminum railing. Strategically placed on the second-floor rooftop deck, Signature railing in Charcoal Black with vertical balusters resists fading and corrosion and, like Trex decking, won’t rot, warp, peel or splinter. The powder-coated aluminum system provides exceptional strength and contemporary beauty to any deck space.

The railing pairs brilliantly with a sleek spiral staircase from the Trex® Spiral Stairs™ collection. Connecting a first-floor space to a private rooftop deck that gives way to 360-degree views, this spiral staircase features the collection’s Multi-Line railing system. Riser Lights from the Trex® Outdoor Lighting™ collection were used on the spiral staircase to make for safe wayfinding.

Lights, Trex Kitchen Add Entertaining Possibilities

Recessed lights from the lighting collection cast a romantic glow when the sun sets along the rooftop deck as well as the home’s other deck spaces, and weatherproof cabinets in creamy Sandstone color from Trex® Outdoor Kitchens™ anchor contemporary entertaining hubs both on the rooftop deck and on a first-floor space. The Venice door style is a modern take on the classic Shaker design. The rooftop kitchen is connected to the downstairs by a mini elevator which makes sending drinks and snacks up to the roof deck easy and convenient.

A second outdoor kitchen in Sandstone, complete with a grill, is tucked away on a ground-floor deck. With dozens of cabinet styles in myriad of sizes, Trex stainless steel kitchen cabinets come with multiple color options so homeowners can create their own unique space. These powder-coat finishes require minimal maintenance while withstanding even the harshest weather. They accommodate creative layouts for all your outdoor essentials, such as grills and other appliances.

Santa Fe truly lives up to its motto, The City Different, as does this year’s Smart Home. With abundant history and cultural traditions, a bustling art scene and award-winning cuisine, this Southwest city values its past while showcasing today’s innovative practices. Smart Home, with its beauty and function, both inside and outside, perfectly captures that city spirit. And Trex outdoor living spaces are the perfect way to settle in and enjoy both.
