Online Distribution Will Complement Traditional Trade and Retail Channels

WINCHESTER, Va., Sept. 10, 2014 –Trex Company, Inc. (NYSE:TREX), the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking and railing products, has officially entered the e-commerce marketplace with the launch of its high-performance Trex® Outdoor Lighting™ collection on Amazon.com. The first product line to be sold by Trex online, Trex Outdoor Lighting will join other Trex-branded products currently available on Amazon through Trex licensees, including Trex Outdoor Furniture™, Trex RainEscape® and Trex Pergola™. This direct foray by Trex into online retail represents a first for the wood-alternative decking category and promises to complement the company’s traditional channel strategy while exposing the brand and product line to a wider consumer audience.

“Like the other Trex products offered on Amazon, outdoor lighting is a category where the customer base is much broader than the decking contractors and consumers who shop for Trex products at lumber yards and retail centers,” said Ronald W. Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. “The incredible reach and marketing horsepower of Amazon will enable us to maximize the potential of this product category, while bringing amplified consumer awareness and credibility to the Trex brand that ultimately will benefit all of our channel partners.”

Effective immediately, the entire Trex Outdoor Lighting portfolio will be marketed and sold on Amazon.com. The line is comprised of a Deck Lighting™ collection recently upgraded with Cree® LED components and “plug-and-play” designs for easy assembly, along with an all-new Landscape Lighting™ collection including well, path, multi-function and spotlight components.

True to Trex’s environmentally friendly heritage, each lighting option surpasses traditional incandescent lighting by using 75 percent less energy and eliminating the worry of voltage drops. In addition, the low-voltage lights are extremely durable, as well as weather-proof and salt-air resistant – ensuring that they will endure the elements for years to come. The lights also are cool to the touch, making them safe for children and pets and are backed by warranties on the various components of Trex Outdoor Lighting.

“Trex’s focus always has been on creating what’s next, and as consumers shift their purchasing behavior online, Trex will continue its brand prominence by leveraging what the new frontier of e-commerce has to offer,” Kaplan said. “Through Amazon, Trex will continue to strengthen its channels of distribution – already the strongest in the industry – to make it even easier for customers to fall in love with Trex Outdoor Lighting and incorporate it into their outdoor living spaces.”
